Here’s my idea on how to have your cake and eat it too.
So many years ago, I used to be a Size 22. My weight continually escalated from birth and for every age I reached, I was a similar weight in Stones. By the time I was 20, I was weighing in at about 110 kg. Not pretty.
I used to joke about it a lot to make people feel more comfortable around me (or perhaps it was for ME to feel comfortable around me) letting others know that (as I ploughed into cakes and biscuits) that ‘ I was watching my weight because nobody else would.’
Over the last 20 years, I have been challenged by weight issues. At one stage I had shrunk down to a staggering 42 kg and was rather sick, jumping from patches of no food at all, to splurges of sugary goodness. The result? A yo-yo body that changed sizes as regularly as seasons….There’s nothing like layers to hid your winter weight right?
Last year I started looking at ways to be able to ‘have my cake and eat it too’ and spoke with winner of series 2 of Masterchef NZ , Nadia Lim. Nadia is tiny – eats all sorts of food and looks more at food from her angle as a trained nutritionist. Nadia is a total sweetheart and said to me ‘Monique, I eat everything. I love food! I just have smaller portions of everything I want so I feel SATISFIED’.
This was a lightbulb moment for me.
